Executive Summary: A Lunch Talk by Biometric Singapore
Biometric Singapore hosted its inaugural Lunch Talk on 14th July 2023 with guest speaker, Ms. Cathie Chew – sharing her story and challenges as a caretaker to her husband Mr. Sim Tharn Chun who was left with permanent hearing loss due to the infamous “Raw Fish Saga”. Other expert panels at the event include Dr. Ian Mathews – an ER doctor with the National University Health System, Mr. Manfred Schmoelz – Co-founder and MD of Mavi Holding, and Ms. Amelia Lin – Chief Operating Officer of Biometric Services Singapore.
With the theme “Prepare for the Unexpected: Protect your Team, Their Income & Livelihood”, the discussion centered around the underestimated risk of sudden accidents, illness, and diseases that can render a person temporarily or permanently disabled and not being able to work for a period. Manfred and Amelia elaborated on Biometric’s innovative insurance solutions to mitigate this risk and protecting income temporarily. The product is available through Great Eastern. Dr. Ian shared compelling real-life case studies that he has seen in his 10 years of experience in the emergency room. Whilst Cathie took us back in time to 2015, when Singapore encountered an outbreak of a highly infectious bacteria strain that affected more than 160 victims, her husband being among them.
Attended by a room full of like-minded individuals from various industry backgrounds, Biometric has the intention to mobilize more of such events in the future. Loss of income is a real possibility for anybody and not just for people in high-risk occupations. As employers, companies can initiate an income protection plan for their workforce as part of employee benefit initiatives. With affordable monthly premiums and coverage of up to 75% of a person’s last monthly drawn salary, income protection insurance offers a blanket of assurance and financial security to manage daily living expenses and obligations. Not to mention – it provides peace of mind.
